GKK Media Services Sdn. Bhd. was formed in 2010, with an objective of disseminating information through print and electronic media.

The first project in this visionary service is the publishing of magazine for senior citizens – PASSAGE. PASSAGE is the first English lifestyle magazine for the Golden Citizens of Malaysia.

PASSAGE is published quarterly and distributed throughout Malaysia and poised to be introduced to South East Asian and Asian countries.

First and foremost, this magazine is aimed to combat the common misconception about seniors – to shift the general mindset that the ageing community is an ailing community. We want to let everyone, especially seniors themselves to know that they are still vibrant, relevant and their expertise is very much sought after.

It becomes sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy for the seniors to think about themselves as frail and irrelevant when they step into the ‘seniorhood’. Often times, it is our thoughts that manifest the reality. We shouldn’t let thoughts about physical and mental frailty come to our mind. Research says that 99% of the diseases accrued are caused by the mind and only 1% caused by actual physical dysfunction.

So, PASSAGE stands as a resource tool to share and care for the golden citizens. PASSAGE showcases senior citizens’ lifestyle and informs seniors on how to age healthily, wisely, wealthily and gracefully.

Our target market is 50 years and above, and currently, in Malaysia there are 3.5 million individuals in this age group. In the year 2000, our census report stated that the senior population was 6.2% = 1.5 million (age 60 and above). According to Kim Walker (Founder and CEO of Silver Group Asia) in the 2010 Ageing Conference in Sime Darby Convention Centre, he said our seniors from age 50 and above comprises 16.6% and in the year 2020 it will be 20.35%. The UN statistics for world report show that in the year 2005, there were 590 million seniors in and in the year 2050 there will be 2 billion seniors in the world.

The rise in life expectancy among seniors are attributed to medical advancement and new discoveries in anti-ageing, improved health results, thus leading to low mortality rates as well as declining fertility rates. Mortality rates in our country as well as in India, China, Japan, Mongolia, Peru and Norway have increased tremendously in the past 10 years.

Therefore, GKK Media Services Sdn.Bhd. wishes to play a significant role in ushering the golden era by sharing values, exchanging life experiences and contemplating on ideals in its productions, so that we may grow together as a society suffused with truth, righteousness, peace, love and non-violence.

Finally a magazine for senior citizens has come to the newsstand for the public to read. There are many reading materials published for children, teenagers, men and women and now, it is time to publish one for our golden people.Although this magazine is meant for the senior citizens, the articles published are for the benefit of all. All are welcomed to associate, contribute, participate and comment. The magazine is packed with a lot of information on biographies of personalities, health, travel, technology, finance & law, lifestyle and aging forums & events.

Wisdom comes with age, likewise, senior citizens’ expertise, knowledge and advice are valuable assets to the younger generation. Aging is not only a seniority of calendar years but also an accumulation of wisdom. As we advance technologically, the humanitarian aspect of helping people should not be forgotten. Progression of arts and science is the acquisition and execution of knowledge and progression of age is the combination of forbearance, righteousness and sense control which produces wisdom. Age is not confined to numbers; aging is a biological process not a psychological one.

As James A. Garfield, the 20th President of the United States said, “If wrinkles must be written upon our brows, let them not be written upon the heart. The spirit should never grow old.” So long as your psyche is strong, you do not age.
