Plan for your retirement before you retire

When are you going to retire?
You have to clearly decide on your retirement age. It would be wise to decide on your retirement age, after taking a good look at the other factors.

How long do you have before retirement?
It will be tougher to plan if the time is shorter. So start planning as early as possible. The ideal time frame will be 20 years or more.

How long do you need the money?
You have to estimate your life-span. It is ideal to plan till the age of 80. This is to make sure that you have enough money if you were to live longer.

How much money do you need for your retirement?
This is the most important question to be answered. It depends on the lifestyle you want upon retirement and is very subjective.

Where do you invest your money?
Besides EPF, you can invest in properties, equities, unit trusts, specific retirement schemes or in investment-link programmes. It is not advisable to put that money in the bank as FD for Retirement Plan, as the yield from the savings will have a negative effect on your returns.

How frequently will you have to review your plan?
It is good to review your investments every year. This is to keep track of your goals and investment returns. Your retirement goal may change from time to time.

About Heart Disease

Finally a magazine for senior citizens has come to the newsstand for the public to read. There are many reading materials published for children, teenagers, men and women and now, it is time to publish one for our golden people.Although this magazine is meant for the senior citizens, the articles published are for the benefit of all. All are welcomed to associate, contribute, participate and comment. The magazine is packed with a lot of information on biographies of personalities, health, travel, technology, finance & law, lifestyle and aging forums & events.

Wisdom comes with age, likewise, senior citizens’ expertise, knowledge and advice are valuable assets to the younger generation. Aging is not only a seniority of calendar years but also an accumulation of wisdom. As we advance technologically, the humanitarian aspect of helping people should not be forgotten. Progression of arts and science is the acquisition and execution of knowledge and progression of age is the combination of forbearance, righteousness and sense control which produces wisdom. Age is not confined to numbers; aging is a biological process not a psychological one.

As James A. Garfield, the 20th President of the United States said, “If wrinkles must be written upon our brows, let them not be written upon the heart. The spirit should never grow old.” So long as your psyche is strong, you do not age.
