For the first timers to Delhi, be prepared for a cultural shock because you would literally find yourself in an ancient Muslim city, surrounded by a large garden with beautiful colonial buildings with its signature red sand-stone architecture. Hence, they are named, Old Delhi and New Delhi. Old Delhi showcases the Mughal Muslim era and New Delhi the recent Colonial past.

The best time to plan your visit to Delhi is between the months of October and April when the weather is quite pleasant. The other months can either be too hot or too wet, but always be prepared to face the omnipresent Indian dust.

Malaysians require a visa to enter India and it is easily obtainable in Kuala Lumpur at the Grand Lotus Indian Visa Centre at the Straits Building along Jalan Leboh Pasar Besar, Kuala Lumpur. There is so much to see in and around Delhi that a six day holiday will only give you a glimpse of Delhi. My recommended six day tour is as follows:

  • Day 1: Arrival in Delhi at night - take a good rest for the next day journey.
  • Day 2: Exploring New Delhi - Connaught Place, Raj Path, India Gate, Presidential Palace, Parliament House, and the Jantar Mantar.
  • Day 3: Visiting Religious Sites - Birla Mandir, Gurdwara Bangla Shaib, Sri Radha Parthasarathi Mandir, the Lotus Temple, Qutb Minar, Yamuna River, Akshardham Swaminarayan Temple.
  • Day 4: Agra - Visiting Taj Mahal.
  • Day 5: Visiting Famous Tombs of Delhi - Old Fort or Purana Qila, Humayun’s tomb, Safdarjung’s tomb, Dilli Hatt, Nehru Memorial museum, Indira Gandhi Memorial museum, Hauz Khas.
  • Day 6: Agra - Shopping and Departure.

Finally a magazine for Senior Citizens has come to the newsstand for the public to read. There are many reading materials published for children, teenagers, men and women and now, it is time to publish one for our golden people.

Although this magazine is meant for the Senior Citizens, the articles contributed are for the benefit of all. All are welcomed to write, contribute, participate and comment. This is the inaugural issue and is packed with a lot of information, activities, events, health tips, interviews and biographies. Wisdom comes with age.

Likewise, senior citizens’ expertise, knowledge and advice are valuable assets to the younger generation. Aging is not only a seniority of calendar years but also an accumulation of wisdom. As we progress technologically, the humanitarian aspect of helping people should not be forgotten.

Progression of arts and science is the acquisition and execution of knowledge and progression of age is the combination of perseverance, righteousness and sense control which produces wisdom. Age is not confined to numbers; aging is a biological process not a psychological one. So long as your psyche is strong, you do not age.
